Karad is a city present in the district of Satara, in Maharashtra. There are two rivers which are at the confluence of River Koyna and River Krishna. These two rivers keep originating from Mahabaleshwar, at a distance of 100 km away from Karad. This confluence is in the shape of T, hence knowable as Preeti Sangam, referring to Lovely Meeting. Karad was named as Karhatak, referring elephant market; also Sahadeva brother of Beema lived here. Karad is knowable for the production of sugar, hence referred as sugar bowl of this state Maharashtra. There are number of tourist places like Koyna dam, Chandoli dam, Uttarmand dam, Thoseghar waterfall, etc. Koyna express, Chalukya express passes this junction.
