Chauri Chaura is a medium sized town near Gorakhpur, in the state of Uttar Pradesh. In fact, Chauri Chaura is situated in between Gorakhpur and Deoria on the State Highway and it has a railway station 25 km south east of Gorakhpur Railway Station. Chauri Chaura is a famous name in terms of Indian freedom fighting movement when in 1922, residents of Chauri Chaura participated in the Non CO-operation movement initiated by Mahatma Gandhi. Eventually, British police killed several people and demonstrators and in return, locals of Chauri Chaura set on fire a Police Chowki and killed all the 22 policemen.
