Try to get relevant links form multiple resources including your competitors. Multiple resources for back linking are One Directories, Articles, PR websites, SMO websites, Blogs, Communities etc. While doing backlinking to your website you must remember that Quality is important not Quantity!
A quality link means that website should be relevant to your website content and should not be a SPAM website. Good Page Rank is not the only thing you should look for all high PR websites are not necessarily quality back link website for you. Remember a ZERO PR relevant website is better than a PR -4 non relevant website. Keep your back linking speed well under control and don’t loose your coolness when things are not happening as per your plan. Key to success is you keep working slowly and you will get success sooner or later.
Also keep a close eye on your competitor and try to notice what kind of back linking they are doing and from what sources! This process will also help you learning new techniques regularly.
